The Adventures of Finn Delgado: Chapter 1.2

Posted by: XIII 21/07.

At first there was a flash of light in the sky, pale silver in colour, like something had just winked into the sky. It wasn't a large flash, just a small sort of reflective light flash that was there for an instant and then disappeared to be replaced by a more sinister and terrifying sight, a red and orange ball of flame headed for the sea on the distant horizon, approaching fast and leaving the air sort of scorched in it's wake, a ball of flame about a mile across or so. It dawned on me instantly that this was it, the little bitter-minded daydream i had came into fruition, the comet, or whatever it was smashed into the sea about 3 miles from the coast, for an instant the sea where the comet hit flashed instantly into steam and then the wave came out of it almost like a sort of worm tunneling just under the surface of the earth at a tremendous speed. It gained momentum and size, ships at sea on the horizon were flung along with the wave, pushed along like small toys. The wave continued to grow, taller now than the very highest point of the town it beared down upon. My face blanched, i remember stupidly soiling myself then and there at the terrifying sight of what i believed to be my death approaching. My thoughts went to my friends, a girl i knew once who i'd never see again, my family nearby possibly seeing what i saw now. The wave came crashing into the harbour, the walls of the inner harbor disappearing inside a new wall, one of water, and far taller than they. Why was this happening? What had i done? Why had i thought what i thought? what i thought? Interesting...my mind said stop as i gave voice to the words and the sea just stopped dead, frozen there, unmoving as a block of granite. Voices started to impose themselves on me as i realised all of the town was collectively shitting itself at the site of it's death, and the realisation that this death wouldn't happen because the wall of water that hovered 6 miles above had stopped dead in it's tracks.
